| This week sees the second WGC event of the year and one that I personally enjoy, it's the Dell Match-Play Championship which this year tees up at Pete Dye’s Austin Country Club in Texas.
The club first came into being in 1899 and then moved to Riverside Drive until 1984. Members then purchased a 180-acre plot bordering Lake Austin and commissioned Pete Dye to design a new course.
Hill Country is known as the garden of Texas and the terrain on this track is severe, with canyons, a lake and woodlands. Dye has produced a course with subtle strategies, alternating shot requirements on a course that has every natural hazard conceivable.
Using the diagonal angles of the canyon for some holes and elevation changes as defences for the remainder, the lakeside holes are both stunning and strategic. The par-3s have forced carries, treacherous hazards, with the 2nd having a carry over water and the 8th where you need to negotiate a gaping chasm.
The course changes when Deer Creek Canyon comes into play on the back nine, as it winds its way across the 11th, 12th, and 13th holes. Nicknamed "Earth's Edge," the 11th has a forced carry over the canyon from the tee, then an approach that totally falls away along the left of the fairway all the way to the green.
If any matches make it to the 18th a brutishly long par-4 measuring 480-yards awaits with a drive that is threaded between unplayable jungle left and a chasm with a pot bunker on the right. The approach shot has a canyon running along the left.
WGC Match-play Format:
There are 16 groups using a round robin format, so what I have decided to do for the match play is pick the 8 players I think will make it through the first stages to reach the Quarter Final. I have also tried to pick players I feel who can win the tournament along with a couple of outside tips that may cause an upset or two.
At this point there will be some giants going out in the quarterfinals, with the mouth-watering ties of Johnson Vs Day and Rahm Vs McIlroy. It all looks like it is heading for a Johnson Vs McIlroy final, but don’t be surprised if that turns out to be Reed Vs Sharma! Who are my four to make it through to the Semi Final.

With all that in mind and trying to keep to our usual format of giving you winners, each-way and outside tips to choose from, we have picked the player from each group we feel would go forward to the Quarter final stages
My tips to Win:
Rory McIlroy 10/1 – with SportingBet
Justin Rose 22/1 – with SportingBet
Francesco Molinari 28/1 – with SportingBet
Each-way tips:
Sergio Garcia 45/1 – SkyBet
Ian Poulter 45/1 – with SkyBet
Rafa Cabrera Bello 66/1 – with SportingBet
Outside Tips:
Matt Wallace 100/1 – with Ladbrokes
Kiradech Aphibarnrat 125/1 – with Ladbrokes
As always good luck
