The PGA Tour makes its way to Texas for the Valero Texas Open, which is played on the demanding 7,435 yard Greg Norman designed TPC San Antonio AT&T Oaks Course, which had some input from Sergio Garcia.

It’s a tough track and any player who suffers from claustrophobia will not enjoy the tight narrow tree lined fairways here. If you miss the first and second cuts of rough you are in deep trouble, with thick knee-high native grass just off the second cut of the fairway.

Once a player has negotiated the tee shot then they have to aim at greens that are guarded by 12-foot deep bunkers. The greens are in near perfect condition and ample in size but they have plenty of movement in them, with lots of slopes, undulations, spines and ridges.

My tips to Win:

It’s is strange looking at Billy Horschel’s 25/1 – with SportingBet – results as you feel he should have been challenging more after starting so many tournaments well, but he gradually slides out of contention. Billy does have a good record at the TPC San Antonia course with three Top 5 finishes here and I feel he will be in the thick of it come Sunday.

With three Top 10s including a runner-up finish at The Players Championship Jason Kokrak 28/1 – with BetFred – will be in confident mood teeing it up this week. Jason does have a couple of Top 15 finishes in this event and with this being part of his Masters build up I expect him to be challenging again this week.

I have tipped Sung Jae Im 30/1 – with UniBet – a couple of time so far this year. Sung Jae had another Top 10 finish at the Coralas Punacana resort Championship at the weekend, which was his third in his last four starts. This is Im’s first season on the PGA Tour and familiarity of golf courses has certainly not been a hinderance and I expect that to continue this week.

Each-way tips:

Charley Hoffman 50/1 – with SportingBet – won this event three years ago and he also has a runner-up and eight Top 15s that includes a third-place finish and two other Top 10s. It has not been a great year for Charley with six missed cuts, but a Top 20 in his last outing two weeks ago could signal the Californian has found some form coming into one of his favourite events on tour.

Another player that seems to enjoy teeing it up at the TPC San Antonia course is Aaron Baddeley 51/1 – with 10Bet – Aaron has six Top 20 finishes which includes three Top 5 finishes. Baddeley is one of those players who’s form fluctuates from week to week, so with his three missed cuts he has a runner-up and four Top 20s including two Top 10s so far this wraparound season.

Outside tips:

This week’s defending champion is Andrew Landry 100/1 – with Coral – and I think most of you know by now that I feel any champion would like to defend his title well. This is Andrew’s third full season on the PGA Tour and as you can imagine there are lots of missed cuts mixed in with some good results and this year has been no different, but I feel Landry could be worth a pound each-way punt this week.

Longer Odds:

Try Martin Laird 150/1 – with UniBet

As always good luck
