The juxtaposed position of the lush fairways and the barren desert gave rise to the term 'The Desert Miracle' back in 1988, when Florida-based course designer Karl Litten was commissioned by his Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, when the first all grass championship course emerged from the arid desert sands.

The course came to prominence when it was awarded its first European Tour event back in 1989 when the Dubai Desert Classic was born. The Majlis, which translates to 'Meeting Place' in Arabic, measures

7,211 yards and flows around the original desert dunes. The course features hundreds of indigenous species of flora and fauna which are complemented by the beautifully lush Bermuda grass fairways that wind their way around the seven fresh and salt-water lakes, bringing water into play on ten of the eighteen holes.

My tips to Win:

After missing the cut last week, Henrik Stenson 16/1 – with SportingBet – will be wanting to put that to bed swiftly this week. Henrik is a past champion here and has a runner-up and seven other Top 10s including a third-place finish and I expect him to be in the thick of it this weekend.

Tyrrell Hatton 22/1 – with PaddyPower – is another player who missed the cut at last weeks Abu Dhabi Championship and although he isn’t a past champion his record here reads eighth, third, third in his last three starts. Tyrrell will no doubt be looking forward to being back at The Majlis course this week after knocking the rust off his golf game in Abu Dhabi.

Past champion Rafa Cabrera Bello 23/1 – with BetFair – will be looking forward to being back in Dubai especially after having two Top 11 finishes from his two starts on the European Tours wraparound season. Rafa has three other Top 15 finishes here including a runner-up three years ago and with a third-place finish on the PGA Tour already this season, he will be looking to being in the thick of it again Sunday afternoon.

Each-way tips:

I did tip Joost Luiten 35/1 – with 10Bet – at last week’s Abu Dhabi Championship and the Dutchman finished in style with a last round 65 that see him storm up the leaderboard nine-places to take third spot. Joost has never really challenged in this event with only three Top 25s with his best finish being an eighth place in 2016, but coming back from injury and the long layoff and that final round 65 I think he will be itching to getting back in the thick of battle.

It seems nearly all my picks this week took an early bath in Abu Dhabi with Thorbjørn Olesen 40/1 – with SportingBet – being the next one up. I have been saying for a while that Thorbjørn has so much talent and I am hoping being part of that winning Ryder Cup team and his final day singles win could just be the spark he needs to kick on and with three Top 10s here, I see him challenging come Sunday.

Outside tip:

These are great odds for someone who has three Top 15 finishes including a fourth-place in this event. Bernd Wiesberger 100/1 – with SportingBet – had eight-months off due to a wrist injury and came back in December, since then he has gradually progressed up the leaderboard as his competitive game has slowly come back. After making the cut in his last two starts, I think he will be looking to challenge and what better place to do that than here.

Longer odds:

Try Stephen Gallacher 230/1 – with BetFair

As always good luck
