After what seems like an age since The Open Championship the European Tour is back and pitches up at the Albatross golf resort in the Czech Republic for this week's D D Real Czech Masters, the course is situated in the Vysoky Ujezd on the outskirts of Prague and not far from the international airport Ruzyne.

The course was designed by Keith Preston and opened for play in 2010 and has hosted the Prague Golf Masters, a Ladies European Tour event, where the course won much praise for its condition. One of the big surprises is how gentle the first few opening holes are for a European Tour venue.

For example, the 3rd is a par 3 without any hazards and has only a sloping green for defence. Indeed, there are no really fierce tests here until you get to the water-strewn final three holes. The Albatross Golf Resort was rated the best course in the Czech Republic by Golf Digest.

My tips to Win:

No real surprise I start with Erik Van Rooyen 14/1 – with SportingBet – who I stated earlier this season would win on the European Tour this year and while we are still waiting for that to happen I do believe it will. Erik has notched up two runner-up finishes and six other Top 20s so far on the European Tour and has only been outside the Top 25 once from his six starts on the PGA Tour which includes his eighth-place finish at the PGA Championship.

Eddie Pepperell 14/1 – with Ladbrokes – seems to enjoy teeing it up at the Albatross golf resort and has two Top 5 finishes from his five starts here and opened up with a 66 last year on his way to a Top 10 finish. Eddie won twice last season and came close to defending his British Masters title this year taking the runner-up spot and he will be looking to go one better come Sunday afternoon.

This week’s defending champion is Andrea Pavan 28/1 – with SpreadEX – who shot two 65s on his way to that victory. Andrea has already won this year at the BMW International Open and followed that up with a Top 5 at the Scottish Open a couple of weeks later and although he missed the cut at The Open I am sure he will be looking forward to defending his title this week.

Each-way tips:

Another player that seems to enjoy teeing it up at the Albatross golf resort is Scott Jamieson 66/1 – with RoyalPanda – who had a Top 5 here last year, his second Top 10 in four starts in this event. Scott has been playing some steady golf this year but just can’t seem to put four good rounds together once he gets himself into contention, but I am hoping those positive memories from last season will see him challenging again this week.

I think the break on the European Tour came at a good time for Matthias Schwab 66/1 – with RoyalPanda – after three Top 10s from six starts including a third place at the BMW International Open, Matthias missed three cuts on the spin. I am sure the rest and practice has helped him work on a few things and coming back to the Czech Republic where he shot four rounds of 69 to make the Top 10 last year should bring him some positive vibes

Outside tip:

A couple of Top 20 finishes in this event including a Top 5 will hopefully see Jason Scrivener 80/1 – with SpreadEx – turn up in a positive frame of mind this week. Jason started the year so well not finishing outside the Top 16 from his first five starts – four of which were Top 10 finishes – and then it all seemed to fall apart. Scrivener missed the cut in his last two starts, but I am hoping after some rest and solid practice he gets back to playing his best golf and being back here may just help him.

Longer odds:

Try Bradley Dredge 150/1 – with SpreadEx

As always good luck
