The PGA Tour moves to the TPC Twin Cities layout in Blaine, Minnesota a suburb of Minneapolis and it’s another new course on the schedule. The course has been home to the 3M Championship on the PGA Champions Tour since 1991, but now moves to the main tour with a new name the 3M Open this week.

The course was originally designed by the Arnold Palmer back in 1997, to bring the course up to PGA Tour standards a team from Arnold Palmer Design Company, have worked with Hollis Cavner, CEO of Pro Link Sports and organiser of the 3M Championship, Steve Wenzloff, senior vice president of design at PGA Tour Design Services, and professional golfer Tom Lehman.

Fairway lines have been strategically adjusted to place a premium on driving accuracy while also minimising the advantage disparity between the longer and shorter hitters on tour. Some tees and bunkers have been repositioned, added or realigned. The most significant change has been at the eighteenth hole, where the tees have been moved to a position where the hole plays its true yardage and the lake at the front of the green has been expanded.

There has also been adjustment to the 594-yard par-5 double dogleg 6th hole, which now puts a premium on accuracy and becomes a classic risk/reward hole. A tee shot played over the deep fescue grasses framing the right side will shorten the hole significantly and any successful second shot played over the pond should find the wide putting green.





My tips to Win:

It’s another new course for the players this week and we see last week what affect that has on the field so my picks are all about form and first up is Hideki Matsuyama 11/1 – with SportingBet – who hasn’t been outside the Top 25 in his last five starts including his sixth place at the Memorial Championship.

Another player that looks like he is coming back to form is Patrick Reed 28/1 – with UniBet – who has been going through some major swing changes, but it was his putting last week that he was pleased with and firing a third round 65 on his way to a Top 5 finish should see him in confident mood again this week.

This will be the first time I have tipped Joaquin Niemann 33/1 – with BetFred – who comes into this week with back-to-back fifth place finishes from his last two starts. Joaquin who comes from Santiago, Chile earned his PGA card after eight starts on the tour after he turned professional in 2018 and with that much confidence in his own ability and the way he is currently playing is the perfect combination.

Each-way tips:

I am again sticking with Viktor Hovland 35/1 – with 10Bet – this week, these are all new courses to the Norwegian and he seems to have settled down well into professional life and after a thirteenth-place finish last week, he should be in confident mood teeing it up here.

A runner-up at the Travelers Championship and a win in the CVS Health Charity Classic shows Keegan Bradley 40/1 – with SportingBet – is coming into this week in great form, the charity classic maybe a one-day non-tour event but it does show his golf game and more importantly his confidence are high at the moment.

Outside odds:

After coping with the new course so well last week I thought these were great odds for Cameron Tringale 125/1 – with UniBet – who seems to have found a key to some good form at the Texas Open back in April. Since then he has had two Top 5s and has only been outside the Top 25 twice in seven starts.
