Located on the volcanic Jeju Island – which is south of South Korea’s and referred to as Korea’s Maui – The Club at Nine Bridges is a 7,196 yards, par 72 golf course, designed by Ronald Fream and David Dale which was completed in 2001 and is the perfect combination of a great golf course in a stunning setting.

The two nines wander through pine-clad rolling land at the foot of Mount Halla – South Korea’s tallest mountain. Parts of Jeju Island resemble Perthshire so the boost of the PR people that the design resembles a Scottish Highlands course rings true to a point, but the finishing and manicuring is more akin to an American style golf course.

Fream and Dale remit was that nature came first even during the initial developments of the design so the course works with nature and there has been minimal disruption to its surroundings. The course derives its name from the eight bridges built on the course, the ninth being a metaphor that connects the club to its members and guests.

My tips to Win:

After an indifferent second and third rounds last week Justin Thomas 6/1 – with Ladbrokes – did close out the CIMB Classic with a 64 and should feel better about his golf game coming into this week. Justin is again the defending champion this week and I am sure he won’t want to be leaving Asia without at least defending one of his titles.

I don’t normally tip players that are coming into an event on the back of a win, it takes time for the adrenalin rush to settle and then the added media attention, but with Marc Leishman 14/1 – with Bet365 – losing out in a play-off here last year, I just feel he will be itching to go one better this week.

Paul Casey 23/1 – with MarathonBet – will have been disappointed with his final two rounds at the CIMB Classic last week and will be looking to put that right. Paul slipped out of the Top 10 in the final round here last year firing a 74 and with those thoughts and with what happened to him last week, I am sure he will be in determined mood when he tees it up this week.

Each-way tips:

If you’re European how could you forget that Alex Noren 40/1 – with SportingBet – holed putt on the final green at the Ryder Cup and I am not sure if his feet have touched the ground yet. Alex should come into this week buzzing, he had a good first full season on the PGA Tour and I am sure he will be starting this wraparound season looking to get an early win.

I did tip Sung-Jae Im 45/1 – with SportingBet – a couple of weeks ago in his first PGA Tour start at 100/1 and that Top 5 finish at the Safeway Open has seen his odds slashed in half for this week. This is Sung-Jae’s home course and he will want to impress family, friends and of course a partisan crowed, so I expect to see him to be right in the thick of it come Sunday.

Outside tip:

I tipped Shubhankar Sharma 100/1 – with SkyBet – at 250/1 last week and while his final round 72 see him slip down the leadearboard it was enough to make the bookies slash his odds or this week. Sharma has won twice on the European Tour this season in co-sanctioned events with the Asian Tour, so he knows how to win and I think he will be pushing again this week.

Longer odds:

Try Jason Dufner 200/1 – with PaddyPower

As always good luck
