Firstly congratulations to Francesco Molinari on winning The Open Championship and becoming the first Italian major championship winner. The European Tour now moves back to mainland Europe and Germany for the Porsche European Open at the Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg. The 7,582-yard North Course is one of the longest on the European Tour and takes up an impressive 86 hectares of the complex and opened for play in 2008.

The complex was the brainchild of Michael Blesch and Ralf Lühmann back in 1997. Blesch designed the courses and the championship North Course incorporates water on nearly every hole, with some spectacular bunkering and natural amphitheatres. Green Eagle previously played host to the ECCO Tour Championship on the European Challenge Tour in 2010.

My tips to Win:

I did tip Patrick Reed 9/1 – with Bet365 – at The Open after acclimatising at the Scottish Open with a Top 25 finish, but it wasn’t to be for The Masters Champion who ended up finishing just outside the Top 25, but he is in great form and I expect him to bounce back this week.

Alexander Levy 33/1 – with UniBet – just missed out in a play-off last year, but has already won on the European Tour this year and has two other Top 5 finishes. Alexander’s overriding goal this year is obviously to make the Ryder Cup team in France and although he missed the cut at The Open Championship I expect him to come back strongly this week.

The winner of that play-off last year was Jordan Smith 33/1 – with SportingBet – who also missed the cut at The Open and unlike Levy doesn’t have a win this year, but he does have a couple of Top 10 finishes and he will be looking to defend his title in style this week.

Each-way tips:

I have tipped Lucas Bjerregaard 50/1 – with SportingBet – several times this year and have done well on him, Lucas had a run of four Top 6 finishes from five starts and he really did look like he was on the verge of winning his first European Tour event. Bjerregaard has unfortunately missed his last two cuts, but I do feel Bjerregaard is not far from winning his first tournament and I expect him to get back to challenging again this week.

Zander Lombard 90/1 – with SportingBet – did make the cut at The Open and was sitting inside the Top 15 going into the final round, but 82 blows later see him crash down the leaderboard and out of contention and not even making the Top 50. This week can go one of two ways for Zander and I am going down the positive route that sees him put that final round behind him and challenge in an event where he had a Top 5 finish last year.

Outside tips:

When Scott Jamieson 150/1 – with BetBright – played on this track back in 2010 in a Challenge Tour event the Scot finished inside the Top 15 which could have been better but for a final round 77. Scott was one of five players disqualified last year during a four-hour rain delay during the second round and I am sure he will want to put that behind him this week.

Longer odds:

Luca Cianchetti 500/1 – with 888Sport

As always good luck
