The Andalucia Masters is now in its third year of its comeback with the backing of Sergio Garcia’s Foundation and teeing up at Europe’s very own “Augusta”, the Robert Trent Jones designed Valderrama.

Originally known as Los Aves sitting above the Andalucian village of Sotogrande, billionaire Jaime Ortiz-Patino purchased the course and asked Trent Jones to come back out and reshape the course in 1985. The course has hosted the Volvo Masters but is most notably remembered for Seve’s captaining of the 1997 Ryder Cup matches.

The 17th hole is the most memorable hole from those Ryder Cup matches and became the perfect risk and reward hole. Named Los Gabiones it was once just a long par five before Trent Jones' redesign and by adding the water feature just in front of the green, it became a must watch hole during the 1997 matches.

In June 2014 King Juan Carlos of Spain granted Valderrama the Royal title, the club is now known as Real Club Valderrama.

My tips to Win:

With back-to-back wins in this event It’s hard not to tip Sergio Garcia 9/2 – with UniBet – to make it three in a row and unlike the British Masters this host seems to be able to produce his best golf even with all the outside noise. It has not been a great year for Sergio on the PGA Tour and his best performance have come at the WGC events or on the European Tour, but I feel being back here and after playing so well in the Ryder Cup, I am sure he will be looking forward to this week and hopefully finish the year on a high.

It is good to see Soren Kjeldsen 20/1 – with SportingBet – back on the European Tour, he certainly had a tough time out in the States and I am sure he will give it another crack, but it can be confidence sapping and I felt it was a good decision to come back and rediscover his form on the European Tour. Soren played in the inaugural event and had a runner-up finish and hasn’t teed it up here since, I am sure being back here will bring with it some positive memories and I expect him to be challenging this week.

It has been a long layoff with injury for Joost Luiten 33/1 – with Bet365 – and I am sure he is raring to get back out on the course and competing, he certainly done the right thing giving his wrist plenty of time to heal. Joost was runner-up here last year and made the Top 5 in the inaugural year, so he obviously enjoys the course and I am sure he chose this event for his return because of those positive vibes.

Each-way tips:

I have felt all year Robert Rock 45/1 – with Bet365 – is about to challenge for a title, his best finish so far was his sixth place at the Nordea Masters a few months ago and he has had a couple of other Top 20s since then. Robert has played some solid golf around the Real Club Valderrama and finished inside the Top 10 last year and I think he will go better than that this year.

Ricardo Gouveia 80/1 – with 888Sport – has suddenly stumbled on some form recently and has had two Top 10 finishes in his last three starts and his final round 68 in some tough conditions at Walton Heath on Sunday should see him teeing it up here in buoyant mood. Ricardo finished inside the Top 60 in his maiden year on the European Tour after winning the Challenge Tour with a record amount and his Top 25 finish here last year should put him in confident frame of mind in his current form.

Outside Tip:

I did tip Ashley Chesters 100/1 – with Bet365 – a few weeks ago, he was a player coming into form, unfortunately he missed the cut at last week’s British Open. This is Ashley’s second year on the European Tour and does have the game to be a great golfer, being the first person ever to win back-to-back European Amateur Championships and taking 3.5 points from four in the 2015 winning Walker Cup team. Last year was the first year Chesters teed it up here and his Top 15 should stand him in good stead this week.

Longer odds:

Try Daniel Brooks 300/1 – with Bet365

As always good luck
