The European tour moves from Africa to the Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the UAE for the HSBC Golf Championship. This is the first of two Peter Harradine designed courses hosting the European Tour, the other being the Doha Golf Club which hosts the Qatar Masters next week.
The course weaves through undulating terrain and features palms, ornamental trees, shrubs, seven saltwater lakes, strategically placed bunkers and generous greens. The course opened for play in October 2000, where its iconic clubhouse in the shape of a falcon with outstretched wings underwent a refurbishment for last year’s event.
The course also had a bit of a make-over for the 2011 tournament, with new tees on the 8th and 10th, the 6th and 14th were extended taking the total yardage to a testing 7,590 yds, which will test one of the best fields to be assembled for a golf tournament so far this year.

My tips to win:
I think my picks to win this week really do pick themselves Dustin Johnson 5/1 with Bet365 comes into this week on the back of winning the Tournament of Champions two weeks ago after finishing last year with four wins. If that isnt enough he turned up to play in this event last season for the first time shot -16 and took the runners-up spot.
There is just as good a case for Justin Rose 8/1 with Coral who finished off the last year with two wins and two other Top 10s from four starts on the European Tour, he also had four Top 10s from his last four starts on the PGA Tour one of which was a runner-up at the BMW Championship and then had a Top 5 at the Hero World Challenge.
Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood 22/1 with SportingBet is another player who should turn up in confident mood after winning all three of his matches in the EurAsia cup. Tommy fired three rounds of 67 here last year on his way to winning and that should give him that buzz of excitement when he arrives here this week.
My each-way tips
You can never dismiss Martin Kaymer 33/1 with StanJames from turning up at the Abu Dhabi GC and playing well, no matter what his current form. Martin has won this event three times with two of those being back-to-back wins he also has had three other Top 5 finishes including a runner-up. Kaymers form over the last few years has been inconsistent but he finished 2017 well and with this being Ryder Cup year with his name being synonymous with holing that winning putt at Medinah he will want to start the year well to cement his position in the team.
Thomas Pieters 50/1 with StanJames didnt have as successful a EurAsia Cup as Tommy but did manage to take two of the three points he played for and came through a ding dong of a singles battle with Byeong Hun An. Thomas has played well in this event over the last three years with two Top 5 finishes but he missed the cut last year and he will want to get back to challenging in this event again.
My outside tips
There are some good outside bets for you, first there is Pablo Larrazabal 150/1 with BetFred who is a past champion here and always seems to enjoy playing in this event and his runner-up finish last year was his best result all season. George Coetzee 110/1 with Bet365 is another player that seems to enjoy the Abu Dhabi track.
If you are looking for longer odds try Jamie Donaldson 200/1 with Bet365 who is another past champion and seems to be making a comeback and is another player who will be desperate to get back into contention and make that Ryder Cup team after his taste at Gleneagles.
As always good luck
