Designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant and first opened for play on February 22, 1919, Pebble Beach is the venue of this week’s AT&T and home to some of the greatest US Open Championships ever played.

This is the only course that Jack Neville ever designed and he had one aim, to design as many holes as possible along the rocky Monterey coast line which he felt would be best achieved by using a 'figure 8' design. The course hugs the rugged coastline providing stunning views, cliff-side fairways and sloping greens.

Arnold Palmer is a share-holder and member of the Pebble Beach Company and he has been commissioned several times to make changes to the course which included lengthening the course to more than 7,000 yards, adding trees, new bunkers and moving some of the fairways closer to the sea.

I am away in St Kitts this week on an equipment testing trip and to review some of the courses on St Kitts and Nevis, check out the next issue of planetgolfreview magazine to read the reviews

My tips to win:

There is no doubting this weeks favourite, having made the Top 10 in his first ever start over Pebble Beach Links Dustin Johnson 6/1 – with Ladbrokes – has gone on to won back-to-back tournaments, had a runner-up and has three other Top 5 finishes here. Dustin is certainly the man to beat this week.

But if anyone is going to put a spike in Dustin’s momentum this week it could be Jon Rahm 11/1 – with PaddyPower – who has already had a runner-up finish to the Californian and has a win of his own at the CareerBuilders Challenge. A final round 72 at the weekend put paid to his challenge at the WM Phoenix Open but I am sure he will be in the thick of it again this week.

Rory McIlroy 11/1 – with SportingBet – start to the season on the desert swing of the European Tour should put him in good stead for this week where he had a runner-up and third place finishes from his two starts. Rory certainly looked refreshed and after a couple of weeks rest he will be raring to go again this week.

My each-way tips:

Another player who has won this event twice is Brandt Snedeker 40/1 – Coral – he also had a Top 5 finish here last year. Brandt’s form has been scratchy so far this season, but a Top 25 at the weekend firing three rounds in the 60s shows he is starting to get some rhythm back and I expect him to do well again this week.

As most of you know I have felt Chesson Hadley 54/1 – with BetDaq – would do well this season and I have tipped him several times, the North Carolinian had a Top 5 finish at the weekend his forth of the year from eight starts and should be in confident mood when teeing it up this week.

My outside tips:

There are several good outside bets this week and a blast from the past is Nick Watney 125/1 – with SportingBet – who seems to have found a bit of form recently and comes back to a course that he was runner-up finish only 3-years ago and he also has a couple of other Top 10s here.

Longer odds:

Want some longer odds for a bit of fun? Try Nick Taylor 200/1 – with SportingBet – who has had a solid start to the wraparound season and has progressed each year he has teed it up here finishing in the Top 10 last year

As always good luck
