The PGA Tour moves to the famed Harry Colt and Charles Alison designed Seaside Course at the Sea Island resort. Tom Fazio updated the course back in 1999 and not long after it entered Golf Digest’s list of Top 100 Courses.

Tour golf is not the only claim to fame of the Sea Island resort, the G8 held one of its summits here back in 2004. Sea Island’s story is a fascinating look at America’s past. Howard Coffin founded Sea Island Investments back in 1926. Coffin was founder of the Hudson Motor Company and designed the original Hudson Motor Car, one of the first mass produced motorcars, which sold for less than $1000.

Coffin and his young cousin, A.W. Jones, worked to make Coffin’s dream of a seaside oasis come true. In late 1928, The Cloister at Sea Island was born, it was designed in the Spanish style of Palm Beach architect Addison Mizner and their first course to be built at Sea Island was the Walter Travis, Plantation Course. Situated on the historic Retreat Plantation on St. Simons Island, the course opened in the summer of 1927 and quickly gained popularity.

There are not many true links courses in North American but the Colt and Alison Seaside course design is one of the rare few and rightly holds a place in American golf course history and recently moved up 111 place to 76th in the worlds top 250 courses.

My tips to win:

With two Top 20 finishes from his two starts on the wraparound season so far Webb Simpson 25/1 – with PaddyPower – will be coming into this week in confident mood. Webb has a runner-up finish and a couple of Top 12 finishes on this track. Simpson’s last win was back in 2014 and he will be looking to get a win this week to stop that run extending into another year.

Chesson Hadley 33/1 – with StanJames – has had a great start to the wraparound season with three Top 5 finishes from four starts – Chesson had to pull out of last weeks OHL Classic due to food poisoning. Hadley has played in this event before and last year was in great shape going into the final round after shooting rounds of 65, 66 and 67, but a final round 77 see him crash down the leaderboard. I can’t see that happening again and I expect to see him challenging again come Sunday afternoon.

Another player who has a runner-up finish here is Bill Haas 37/1 – with BetFair – Bill has won six PGA titles and has won an event every year from 2010 – 2013 he skipped a year and won again in 2015. Haas didn’t win an event last year and will be hoping he can win an event by the end of this year to stop that run becoming two years with out a tournament victory, time is running out and I expect him to be in the thick of it this week.

My each-way tips:

I was surprised you could get these type of odds on Patton Kizzire 41/1 – with BetFair – especially as he has a record of a win and two Top 10s from three starts and is leading the FedEx Cup rankings. I know how tough it is to win back-to-back tournaments but in his current form I feel Patton will be challenging again this week.

I am going to stick with Kevin Streelman 51/1 – with 10Bet – this week after he made the Top 20 at the OHL Classic making that his third Top 20 from four starts. Kevin does have a Top 10 finish over the Sea Island course firing two rounds of 66 along the way.

My outside tips:

Chris Kirk 80/1 – with SportingBet – is a past champion of this event and has a couple of other Top 20 finishes here. Chris has been playing OK golf at the start of the wraparound season but hasn’t challenged and he missed the cut two weeks ago, but being back here may just give him the confidence boost he needs right now.
