The Royal Selangor Golf Club was home to the inaugural Malaysian Open in 1962 which continued to be held at the RSGC Old Course throughout the decade, and returned to the course in 2002.
Royal Selangor Golf Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in Asia and was founded in 1893 by a group of expat businessmen.
The club now sits on land very close to the world famous Petronella twin towers. The founding members played at Petaling Hill before being forced to move to their present location when the government purchased the land for a public park.
In 1921 the club began a program of building two 18-hole courses, 9-holes at a time.
Recent reconstruction and remodeling by Robin Nelson and Neil Haworth has certainly improved the Royal Selangor Golf Club, it has modern day golf challenges with many tactical surprises and strategic course thinking is required to score well.
The multiple tee options offers golfers of varying skill levels a different golfing experience and challenge, while retaining most of its unique characteristics and charm of the original parkland environment.
The Maybank Championship will be held at the composite East Course, a combination of the 1st Old and 2nd New courses.
