This years Joburg Open moves to RandPark Golf Club, which hosted the South African Open in 1995 and 2000, but the course that was established in the mid-60s has undergone some major changes since then.

In 2015 Sean Quinn, constructed seven new holes on the Firethorn course and rebuilt every green and several bunkers were modified and given distinctive flash fronted faces.

The cameras will mainly focus on the 18th, which was changed from a long par five to a very tough 507-yard par four. The front nine plays like a totally different course, the par 3 2nd has been removed and replaced with a par five which doglegs right to the old 3rd green. The 6th, 7th and 8th holes were also replaced by four new holes that run counter-clockwise to the old routing.

The Firethorn course at Randpark is renowned for its tough finish, starting at the 470-yard, par four, 16th hole, where a dam needs to be avoided on the left of the fairway. The 235-yard par 3 17th has water to the left and sand to the right with the crescendo being the new 507-yard, par four, that doglegs left across a stream to a well-guarded, elevated green.

The Joburg Open will have the largest field of the season, with 240 players competing over Randparks two courses – Firethorn and Bushwillow and it's the first time this event has not been played at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club.

My tips to win:

After a couple of months rest Louis Oosthuizen 6/1 – with PaddyPower – has come back and made the Top 10 in both his starts at the Nedbank Challenge and Mauritius Open. Louis has two Africa Open victories but has never won this tournament and he will be looking to put that right this week.

One player who has won this event is George Coetzee 18/1 – with BetFred – back in 2014 and he has not been outside the Top 25 since that win and he was right in the thick of it last year when the tournament got relegated to 54 holes. George comes into this week on the back of a Top 10 finish at last weeks Mauritius Open and should be in confident mood this week

Dean Burmester 28/1 – with SportingBet – finished last season with a Top 5 finish at the World Tour Championship, he also finished just outside the Top 25 at last weeks Mauritius Open getting his wraparound season off to a solid Start. Dean has two Top 15 finishes from his last three starts in this event and although this years tournament is at a different venue I think he will be challenging this week.

My each-way tips:

This will be Matt Wallace 50/1 – with Coral – second year on the European Tour and with a win and four Top 10 finishes in his first season he certainly didn’t let teeing it up with the big boys intimidate him. I expect Matt to have an even better season this year and what better way to start than winning here.

Going from the young guns to an old hand at the game Thomas Aiken 66/1 – with Bet365 – still has plenty of game about him to be challenging again this week. Thomas is another player who has won the Africa Open but not the Joburg Open and he will also be looking to put that right his week and these are great odds for the local lad.

My outside tips:

There are a couple of great outside tips this week, firstly I am going to be sticking with Oliver Bekker 100/1 – with UniBet – who leads the Sunshine Tour OOM and had a Top 10 finish at last weeks Mauritius Open. There is also Justin Walters 80/1 – with Bet365 – who had a Top 15 at the same event and has a couple of Top 5 finishes in this tournament.

Longer odds

Those looking for longer odds should check out Jared Harvey 350/1 – with StanJames – who currently sits in the runner-up spot on the Sunshine Tour OOM and has a win, a couple of runner-up finishes and several Top 10s so far this year.
