The FedEx Cup moves on to the TPC club in Norton, Massachusetts, which is about 25 miles south of Boston. Originally designed by Arnold Palmer and built in 2003, the course was re-designed by Gil Hanse and Brad Faxon.

Gil Hanse of Hanse Golf Course Design is known as one of the best traditional golf course designers in the United States and along with Brad Faxon was commissioned to undertake a re-design with the remit to make the course blend in more naturally with its New England surroundings.

Gil Hanse spent a year in Great Britain studying the earliest examples of golf course architecture and interned with Hawtree and Son, one of the oldest golf course architectural firms in the world. The influence of Hawtree and Son can be seen in Gil Hanse work, preserving and protecting the integrity of the land, maximizing the natural characteristics of the terrain and minimizing human impact on the landscape during construction.

Hanse became only the third American architect to build a course in Scotland when he created Craighead Golf Links, which opened in 1998. Ron Whitten, Editor of Golf Course Architecture said, “This was a refinement and enhancement of a course whose basic structure was sound, not a total renovation or wholesale replacement.”

My tips to win:

I must admit I think the play-offs could become the Dustin Johnson 15/2 – with PaddyPower – and Jordan Spieth 17/2 – with MarathonBet – show, especially after last week’s performance at the Northern Trust. Both are in great form and Dustin has shown he has the mental strength to win back-to-back tournaments and Jordan will be seeking revenge this week after that play-off defeat and I can see another epic battle this week.

Even with this high quality field I do feel Johnson and Spieth may just spur each other on especially if they both get off to great starts, but one player that is coming into form who has played well on this track before is Louis Oosthuizen 35/1 – with BetFred – who has teed it up here three times and has not been outside the Top 12 and has had a runner-up finish in that run.

My each-way tips

This was a difficult decision between Paul Casey 40/1 – with BlackType – and Kevin Chappell 40/1 – with Coral – but I am going to plummet for Casey on the fact that he has three Top 5s from his last five starts and hasn’t been outside the Top 13 in that run. Paul had a runner-up finish here last year and has finished inside the Top 12 on the three times he has played in this event and on current form I think he will be in the thick of it again come Sunday.

Webb Simpson 55/1 – with Bet365 – is a past champion of this event and although he has had a several Top 20s since then, he did miss the cut here last year. What has made me decide to go with him this week is because of his recent record of Third and Sixth in his last two starts, in tournaments where he has played well before. With his confidence high coming back to TPC Boston, I feel we will see Simpson challenging again this week.

My outside tips:

There are a couple of great outside tips this week; Russell Henley 100/1 – with Ladbrokes – who had a runner-up here a few years ago and is coming back into form. Francesco Molinari 100/1 – with Bet365 – who I tipped last week and although he missed the cut he has been playing well and it will be the first time he has teed it up at TPC Boston and Chez Reavie 125/1 – with Bet 365 – who lost in a play-off to Webb Simpson when he won here, Chez will be in buoyant mood after his Top 10 at the Northern Trust.
