This will be the fifth Thailand Golf Championship that will again be played at the Schmidt-Curley designed Amata Spring Country Club, which opened for play in 2005. The design remit was to create a course and facilities that could host international golf tournaments.

Situated halfway between Bangkok and Pattaya, the course is long with plenty of greenside bunkers and very fast putting surfaces. There are plenty of water hazards and none more so than the signature 17th hole with its floating green, which can only be accessed by a boat!! The green is anchored in four locations and has a submerged irrigation line running from the boat docking location to the green.

The original plot of land was completely flat with a massive lake in the middle of the property. To help create the elevation changes the water level of the lake was lowered by approximately 10 meters helping to create the elevated tees and rolling fairways, with the 17th and 18th holes sitting 8 meters below sea level.

My tips to win:

There was a couple of tough choices over my picks this week, the first one was between Sergio Garcia 6/1 – with SportingBet – and Bubba Watson 5/1 – with Bet365 – and having both won at the weekend they will both be in confident mood. But I have gone for Sergio as he has won this event before and has played in the tournament every year event and has two other Top 10 finishes in the four years that it has been running.

I did say last week that I though Matthew Fitzpatrick 22/1 – with Bet365 – would win another event before the year is out and I think this is his last tournament of the year. Matthew played well last week but just couldn’t seem to get the putter working, but his golf game is in great shape and I think he may get that win this week.

Thongchai Jaidee 22/1 with Bet365 – was another one of my tips from last week and again seemed to just find it hard to hole out on the greens in South Africa. Thongchai has finished the year in great form winning one event and has four other Top 15s including a third place finish at the BMW Masters. Jaidee has improved on his finish each year he has competed in this event finishing 17th, 10th and 6th and if he keeps that progression going we should see Thongchai right in the thick of it come Sunday.

My each-way tips:

Prom Meesawat 55/1 – with PaddyPower – hasn’t played well in this event over the last couple of year, but does have two Top 11 finishes the first two years of the event. Meesawat also comes into this week in confident mood after a Top 15 finish at the weekend, which followed on from two Top 5 finishes all on the Asian Tour. It was an eight-year wait for Prom to win his second event on the Asian Tour last year and I don’t think it will be that long a gap before he bags his third title.

A consistent performer on the Asian Tour is Scott Hend 50/1 with Coral – who currently sits in second place on the tours order of merit and he has finished inside the Top 5 on the OOM four times in the last nine-years. Hend looks well on his way to making five from nine this year and four in a row and has two Top 10 finishes here and I expect him to be challenging this week.

My outside tip:

Chinnarat Phadungsil – 200/1 with BetFred – won his first Asian Tour event as an amateur winning the Double A International aged just 17 years and five days, he has gone on to win two other events the last coming in 2009 at the Queen's Cup, which was held in Thailand. Winning both those events on home soil shows the lad from Chantaburi rises to the occasion when playing in front of his home support and with two Top 15 finishes here I think he could be worth a 50p each-way bet.
