This is not the first time the Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort Backtee Course will have hosted a European Tour event, the new course was where Thomas Bjorn landed his inaugural professional victory, winning the Himmerland Open. But this will be the first time many of today's European Tour players would have seen the the newly re-constructed Backtee Course which opened in April 2013 following extensive renovations.

Designed by Philip Spogárd and constructed by David Nelson, with Per Gundtoft as an advisory consultant, the course is situated in a beautiful part of the country and is located 20 kilometres to the west of Alborg, Europe’s cleanest city.

The course offers some stunning views, but with its wide fairways, it’s a course that is very easy on the eye. The professionals shouldn’t be fooled by its wide open spaces, if you want to score well round this track you need to be in the right part of the fairways to attack the flags.

My tips to win

It’s not been a bad year for this week’s defending champion Marc Warren 10/1 – with Bet365 – and although he made the Top 50 at last week’s USPGA Championship, I think going into that event he would have been expecting to have made at least the Top 15. Marc hasn’t won this year but has had a runners-up in Qatar and two other Top 5 finishes, I am sure he will want to put that right before the year is out and what better way than to defend his title this week.

It’s not been the greatest of years for Thomas Bjorn 20/1 – with Ladbrokes – and in typical fashion this year he faded after getting off to a great start at Whistling Straits last week and ended up just making it into the Top 50. Thomas has had several missed cuts this year and only three Top 25, but it is his home tournament and he was a big part in getting this event off the ground and with a Top 5 finish here last year it’s hard to say the home support wont give him that extra lift he needs.

I think everyone in golf has been waiting for Thorbjørn Olesen 40/1 – with BetVictor – to fulfil his vast potential, he certainly has the game to do well, it’s just the mental hurdles he seems to have a problem with having burst onto the scene in 2011 with three runners-up finishes in this debut season. Thorbjorn does have two wins to his name and had a Top 10 finish here last year but has done nothing of note this year apart from a runners-up finish in Mauritius. I am banking on his home support giving him a lift and some positive vibes from last year.

My each-way tips:

Peter Uihlein 40/1 – with SportingBet – most look at his 2011 Walker Cup team mate Jordan Spieth and wonder if he made the right decision to learn his trade on the European Tour instead of the PGA Tour and after watching him come so close to becoming the first player to win the Grand Slam in one calendar year, I sure it should have some positive effect on the American this week. Peter does have a win on the European Tour but he hasn’t made the big breakthrough his talent should have had by now.

SSP Chawrasia 80/1 – with Bet365 – had a Top 10 finish here last year playing some very steady if unspectacular golf and after watching his fellow compatriot Anirban Lahiri play so well in the USPGA Championship I am sure that will have inspired him to push on. SSP currently sits in third place on the Asian Tour OOM and had a runners-up finish in his home Open and made the Top 25 in his last event at the European Masters, but I am sure he will be in confident mood teeing it up this week.

My outside tip:

One player that I have tipped several times this year is Jorge Campillo 125/1 – with Bet365 – who I do expect to break through and win his first European Tour event. The lad from Caceres, Spain has six Top 25 finishes this year including a couple of Top 10s. I did tip him in the Paul Lawrie match-play and after taking out John Daly I expected that to give him a confidence boost but he went out the following round. Jorge played here last year and didn’t pull up many trees just playing steady golf to make the cut, but I think he will do well here this week.
