In 1991 Tom Fazio was commissioned to design the course at Conway Farms Golf Club, which plays host to this weeks BMW Championship. Conway Farms is an exclusive golf club designed in what Americans like to dub as “Inland links course”,.

The club is only open to its members and their guests. The course measures 7,206 yards from the championship tees, and sprawls across 209 acres of lush, rolling acres at Lake Forest. It is obviously not set on typical links land associated with Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English links courses, but Tom Fazio has tried to ensure it plays like a links course.

This is achieved because of its up-hill and down-dale fairways, which are framed by patches of tall heather and a number of deep, strategically placed bunkers. Making it critical to find the right landing areas, both on its heavily protected fairways and its rolling, links-style greens.

My tips to win


The reason I am going for Jordan Spieth 12/1 – with SportingBet – this week is mainly because I think he will be smarting from missing the cut two weeks ago at the Deutsche Bank Championship, and no doubt he will have been working on his putting stroke that appeared to have let him down which then seemed to effect his temperament and his thought process, with the extra rest I am sure we will see him come out all guns blazing this weekend.

Likewise with Henrik Stenson 12/1 – Bet365 – he will be another player kicking himself and the way he let the win get away from him in the Deutsche Bank Championship. An extra weeks rest and some work on his game should see him coming into this week in a determined mood.

Jim Furyk 22/1 – with SportingBet – seems to enjoy playing in this event and has had a win and a runners-up finish in this event, he had a Top 5 finish the last time the tournament was held at Conway Farms Golf Club two years ago and had another Top 5 last year. Jim is on a great run of form at the moment with three Top 5 finishes from his last five starts and I think we will see him challenging again this week.

My each-way tips:

Sergio Garcia 50/1 – with BetVictor – has a knack of just turning up and doing well and I think that will be the case again this weekend after not playing since the PGA Championship. Sergio finished inside the Top 20 the last time the event was held at Conway Farms GC. Garcia will need a good finish to make the Tour Championship in two weeks time and at these odds I think he is a great each-way bet.

Another good each-way bet has to be Hunter Mahan 66/1 – with Bet365 – I think these are great odds for someone who appeared to have come into form at the Deutsche Bank Championship two weeks ago. Mahan has also had a Top 5 finish on this track the last time the BMW Championship was held at Conway Farms GC when his final two rounds of 65, 67 saw him climb up the leaderboard.

My outside tips:

I did tip Keegan Bradley 100/1 – with BoyleSport – at the Deutsche Bank Championship and he is another player that seems to be finding his game during the FedEx Cup play-offs and his second round 66 really put keegan in the thick of things. He didn’t have a great third round but recovered well when the pressure was on. Bradley finished inside the Top 20 the last time the event was held at Conway Farms GC, his final round 66 saw him move up the leaderboard and at these odds I think he is worth a little each-way wager.

As always good luck
