The Royal Pines Championship Golf Course hosted last year's Australian PGA Championship and this year you will see a complete reconstruction of the first nine holes, which was undertaken by Graham Marsh.

Part of the redesign has seen the construction of several spectator mounds around the golf course giving elevated views of the course. The tournament course is a composite course, the gold has the flowing waters of the Nerang River and features both salt and fresh lakes with water coming into play on nine of the eighteen holes.

The green course is an oasis of emerald greens and hidden challenges. The final nine holes are a testing combination of deep bunkers with undulating greens and tight airways.

My tips to win:
I am going to stick with Brett Rumford 20/1 – with Coral – this week after his Top 10 finish at last week's Australian Open Championship. Brett has a win and two other Top 10s from four starts on the Australasia Tour, but didn’t have the same impact on the European Tour this year. Rumford had a Top 20 finish here last year and I expect him to be challenging again this week.

Cameron Smith 25/1 – with StanJames – had a Top 10 finish here last year after opening up with a first round of 74, he managed to pull it back round and his third round 77 the year before put paid to any sort of last day challenge. Cameron started the year really well on the Australasia Tour with two Top 5 finishes and should come into this week buzzing after his final round 66 saw him storm up the leaderboard into the Top 15 at last week's Australian Open Championship.

Another player who finished well at last week's Australian Open Championship is Nick Cullen 33/1 – with BetVictor – whose final round 68 saw him finish inside the Top 5. Nick has had two Top 25 finishes in this event the last two years, and he also currently sits in the Top 5 of the Australasia Tour with three Top 5 finishes from five starts, I am sure he will be in the thick of it again come Sunday.

My each-way tips:

Rod Pampling 40/1 – with PaddyPower – must be itching for Thursday to come the way he finished last week's Australian Open Championship firing a final round 61 – 10 under par and setting a new course record along the way. The 46-year old still feels he has the game to compete and it was only three years ago that he had a runners-up finish in this event – although that was at the Hyatt Regency Coolum. But in this vain of form he can’t be discounted this week.

Defending champion Greg Chalmers 50/1 – with SportingBet – will not only be looking to make it back-to-back wins in this event but he will be going for his third Australian PGA title putting up there with the likes of the great Kel Nagle – who went on to win this event six times. Chalmers missed the cut at last week's Australian Open Championship but I don’t think we should right him off this week.

My outside tip:

Nathan Green 200/1 – with SportingBet – had a Top 5 finish here the first year the tournament moved to the RACV Royal Pines Resort and he followed that up with a Top 25 last year. It has not been a great year so far for the lad from New South Wales hence the odds he is being offered at this week. But being back on a track he seems to enjoy playing he could be worth a sneaky 50p each-way punt.
