The home of golf will see some of the best players in the world turn up to compete in this weeks Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The players will be competing on the hollowed turf that is St Andrews, but also Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, three of the best courses in Fife. All three are in Golf Monthly’s Top 100 courses of Great Britain and Ireland, only Kingbarns is just outside the Top 10 at number eleven.

My tips to win:

Martin Kaymer 16/1 – with Coral – is a past champion here, he also has a runners-up finish and a Top 10 and comes into this week on the back of his runner-up finish at the Open D’Italia two weeks ago. Martin has not quite hit the heights of last year when he took his second major championship at the US Open where he tore the field apart, but he has been frightening to do that and I think if he gets the putter going this week we could well see him storm into an unassailable lead.

Shane Lowry 22/1 – with BetWay – is another player who has a good record in the Alfred Dunhill links championship with two Top 6 finishes over the last few years. Shane comes into this week sitting in sixth place on the Race to Dubai helped largely by his win at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and his Top 10 finish at the US Open. Lowry has not played since missing at the PGA Championship, but he is another player that will get a buzz being back here this week.

My each-way tips

Matthew Fitzpatrick 35/1 – with Coral – had a week off after his Top 5 finish at the Open D’Italia and I am sure he will be itching to get back playing again this week. Matthew has had three Top 3 finishes from his last six starts and has been banging on the door of his first professional tour win since his Top 10 at the Irish Open. I really do feel he will win this year and after a weeks rest, it could be a rejuvenated Fitzpatrick that finally opens the door this week.

Jamie Donaldson 35/1 – with 888Sport – has two Top 10 finishes at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and should come into this week in confident mood after his Top 5 finish at last week's Porsche European Open - where he played some very consistent golf . It has not been a great year for Jamie who has also been playing on the PGA Tour with some good results intermingled with several missed cuts. I think last week's result and being back here on familiar ground may just give the Welshman that edge this week.

I am going to stick with Tommy Fleetwood 50/1 – with Coral – this week even though he missed the cut at last week's European Open. Tommy has a great record here since he first played in the event in 2011 when he had a Top 5 finish, he has since followed that up with another Top 5 and a runner-up at last year's event. Fleetwood hasn’t been his consistent self over the last couple of weeks, but being back here I think we will see him competing again come Sunday.

My Outside Tip:

I am going to stick with David Lipsky 175/1 – with 888Sport – I am hoping last weeks missed cut was a blip in his recent form, especially as he started last weeks Porsche European Open so well opening up with a 66 following his Top 5 finish at the Open D’Italia and with the way the Friday morning starts all seemed to falter, I think we will see Lipsky competing again this week
