Designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant and first opened for play on February 22, 1919, Pebble Beach is the venue of this week’s AT&T and home to some of the greatest US Open Championships ever played.

This is the only course that Jack Neville ever designed and he had one aim, to design as many holes as possible along the rocky Monterey coast line which he felt would be best achieved by using a 'figure 8' design. The course hugs the rugged coastline providing stunning views, cliff-side fairways and sloping greens.

Arnold Palmer is a share-holder and member of the Pebble Beach Company and he has been commissioned several times to make changes to the course which included, lengthening the course to more than 7,000 yards, adding trees, new bunkers and moving some of the fairways closer to the sea.

My tips to win:

No surprise to see Tiger Woods 5/1 leading the way as the bookies favourite, but unlike last year, after his third place finish at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, he comes into this tournament in great form. Throw in one of Tigers favourite courses and it’s not too hard to calculate Tiger will be a big fret here this week.

Phil Mickelson 22/1 started to look like he was getting back to playing some decent golf at the Phoenix Open apart from a disappointing final round 73. He did finish tied ninth here last year and maybe the renewed rivalry with Tiger will get Phil’s adrenalin flowing.

Brandt Snedeker 28/1 didn’t have the best of tournaments at the Phoenix Open but then that’s understandable after the high of winning at the Farmers Insurance Open the week before. I don’t see too many other players who are playing more consistent golf than the lad from Nashville.

My each way bets are:

Will Spencer Levin 40/1 be able to put aside his collapse at the Phoenix Open and like Lyle Stanley take the positives from his first three rounds? I think if it was anyone other than Lyle winning in Phoenix I would have said no and not put the lad from Sacramento on this betting guide. But I think Spencer could take some heart from Stanley’s win and his forth place finish here last year.

Padraig Harrington 45/1 could be another good each way bet. The Dubliner seems to have started off the season in a positive mood and added to his good finish to last year and with this event being played at a possibly wind swept Pebble Beach, you can see Padraig being in his element.

DA Points 35/1 is probably looking forward to defending his title here this week, not just because of the feel good vibe but to put out his bad finish at last week’s Phoenix Open. It’s the only tournament his finished out of the Top 15 this year.
