Caledon country Club, Ontario, Canada
Golf holiday review of Ontario, Canada; Caledon Country Club, 7th hole

I think what we all enjoy about the game of golf is not only the challenge to your golfing skills and abilities but also the environment we get to play in and enjoy and the many different types of courses and designs. I am standing on the tee looking across to the green some 239-yards away, it's a short par 4 named Glory, which is played over water and we have been challenged that the first person to drive the green will get a Polo shirt from this week's host and I duly put my ball on the green.

Of course you feel great, but what I also liked was the fact that this is a great opening hole and you can set your own challenges for your group on the day. But not only does the hole look great it gives you that sense of anticipation, what it also does is put enough time between each group so you don’t feel rushed and you can enjoy the spectacular vistas that are to be had here.

The first of which comes on the par 5, 471-yard 4th hole named The Pines, make sure you stand at the back of the green and look back down the hole, it truly is stunning. There are some nice par 3s here but none better than the 143-yard 5th that is played from an elevated tee funnelled through trees to the green below – it's not named The Chute for nothing! It's a beautiful little hole and one that I know you will enjoy.

The front nine comes to a close just as it opened, a short par 4 over water to the green below, some 298-yards away and for those really long hitters you do have another chance at driving the green – well it is named Go for broke for nothing!

You get another chance at those stunning views on the back nine on the 13th aptly named “Higher Ground”, as you stand at the back of the green looking back down the hole. It really is a good place to take a breath as then you have another great driving hole coming up on the 619-yard 14th named “The Signature” – subtle hint here – the hole is played from an elevated tee with a stunning backdrop.

You can cut some of the corner off and leave yourself a mid-long iron shot into the green. The run of holes from the par 3 12th through to a nice finishing hole is a perfect way to spend a beautiful summer's day. Caledon Country Club is not a must play course but it does offer a great challenge. The designer, Rene Mulyaert, has perfectly captured some stunning views and if you are in the Toronto area you will certainly enjoy a days golf here, throw in a couple of great golf holes and a nice cold drink and it's another great day you weren't at the office.
