I will be attending this years Rocco Forte Sicilian Open and looking forward to staying at the Verdura Resort and playing the composite course on the Monday, so look out for the reviews in the Open Championship issue of PGR Magazine.
Located on the southern coast of Sicily and set in 230 hectares of stunning landscape overlooking the Mediterranean, the resort offers golfing guests and families a 5* resort, two 18-hole championship courses and a nine-hole par-three course, all designed by world-renowned golf architect Kyle Phillips, an award-winning 4,000sqm spa, 6 tennis courts, a 60m two-tiered infinity pool, numerous watersports, one football pitch a 170sqm fully-equipped gym and a collection of running trails through olive and lemon groves. And there is a 1.8km stretch of private coastline to enjoy too.

My tips to Win:
Defending champion Alvaro Quiros 33/1 – with Coral – should come into this week in confidant mood after his runner-up finish at last months Trophée Hassan ll. It’s been a long hard road back for the 2011 World Tour Champion who has won six other European Tour titles and I think we will see the long hitting Spaniard in the thick of it again come Sunday.
It has been a rollercoaster year for Julien Guerrier 35/1 – with Bet365 – with three Top 20 finishes – two of which were Top 10s including a third place at the Oman Open – and four missed cuts from his nine starts on the European Tour. Julien won twice on the Challenge Tour last year and had a Top 10 finish in this event when he opened up with a 65 and I think he will be challenging again this week.
As you can see its not the strongest of fields this week, which will make it interesting for the bookies and experience will tell and three times European Tour winner Marcus Fraser 50/1 – with SportingBet – comes into that category. Marcus started the year with a run of missed cuts but has settled down and started playing some consistent golf and coming back to a course where he opened with two 66s last year I am sure he feels this could be his chance to add to his win tally this week.
Joakim Lagergren 50/1 – with Ladbrokes – is another player that has suddenly started to find some consistency after missing four cuts and I tipped him a few weeks ago. A third place finish at the Tropée Hassan ll should give him plenty of confidence coming into this week. Joakim didn’t play in this event last year but I feel the course could suit his game.
Another player that I tipped a few weeks ago at 200/1 at the China Open was Lucas Bjerregaard 61/1 – with 10Bet – who missed out on the Top 5 by a shot and came on the back of four missed cuts, his final rounds of 66, 64 see him storm up the leaderboard. But it’s the difference between those two rounds and his opening two rounds you should take notice of a slight tweak to his putting stroke see him hole more putts and he will be looking forward to this week.
It is hard to play in front of a partisan crowd but Nino Bertasio 80/1 – with BetWay – proved with his Top 10 finish at last years Italian Open when he fired a final round 64 that he has that in his locker. Nino missed the cut here last year firing a second round 64 to just miss out by one shot, but that showed he knows how to score around this course and coming into this week on the back of three solid finishes after missing four cuts should see him challenging those Top 5 positions this week.
Try Matthew Nixon 200/1 – with Bet365 –
As always good luck
