This week sees the tour move to the mainland island of Hawaii, Oahu and tees up at the Waialae Country Club. The course nestles between the Koolau mountain range on the north and Pacific Ocean on the south.

Opened in 1927 and designed by Seth Raynor, the Waialae Country Club has hosted major golfing events since 1965 and has been the venue for the annual Hawaiian PGA tournament.

Tailored greens, lush fairways, beautiful mountain ranges, the blue ocean, these are some of the fantastic views the course has to offer the visiting golfer. The pros on the other hand will be playing the course in a different way as the front and back nines are reversed for Tournament play in order to capitalise on the sun setting in the west.

My tips to win:

I am sure Brian Harman 20/1 – Ladbrokes – will be bouncing into this week after his third place finish at the Tournament of Champions. Brian has had three Top 5s from his four starts on the wraparound season and tees it up this week at the Waialae Country Club knowing he hasn’t finished outside of the Top 20 in his last three starts here, momentum is certainly on his side.

Another player that should be in confident mood is Marc Leishman 16/1 – UniBet – who had his second Top 10 in three starts on the wraparound tour, Marc also had a Top 5 at the Australian PGA just before Christmas. Leishman finished last season well with a win at the BMW Championship which followed on from a third place finish at the Dell Championship and I expect him to be challenging again this week.

The winner of that Australian PGA Championship was Cameron Smith 35/1 – PaddyPower – who I tipped and who I also tipped last week at the Tournament of Champions, but for a poor opening round Cameron played very well and I expect that good form to continue this week.

My each-way tips:

This tip came down to Jason Dufner 50/1 – Coral – and Chris Kirk, but it turns out the bookies were laying longer odds on Kirk so he has become one of my outside tips. Jason always seems on the verge of getting back to his best, there is no question about his long game its his putter that has always been the problem, but there have been signs and I don’t think it will be long until the flat-stick gets hot again.

Jamie Lovemark 80/1 – BetFred – is yet to win on the PGA Tour but does have two wins on the Web.com Tour. After missing a couple of cuts in this event Jamie has made the Top 10 on his last two visits, opening up with a 64 and finishing with two 65 last time out. It was to become Jamie’s second best finish of the year and I am sure those positive vibes from last year will help him this week.

My outside tip:

Chris Kirk 125/1 – BetFred – has a good record on this track – runner-up and a Top 5 – and comes into this week after a Top 5 finish in his last event of last year and with some solid practice over the winter he should be raring to go

Longer odds:

Last year was not a great one for past champion Ryan Palmer 150/1 – with StanJames – who won this event back in 2010, Ryan teed it up in twenty PGA Tour events and missed the cut in ten of them. The positive side of that equation is he did make the Top 15 in four of the other ten events going on to make the Top 10 in three of them. Palmer has made the Top 20 in three of his last four visits here, I am sure he has been working on his game during the winter, so it will all come down to his mental strength after it took a bashing last years.

As always good luck
