This week sees the PGA Tour hit the Midwest in Western Illinois for the John Deere Classic, which for the last twelve years has been played at the TPC Deere Run Championship course.

The rolling terrain and wooded ravines were the perfect arena for ex PGA touring professional, DA Weibring to design this beautiful track and with the wooded areas of this former Arabian horse farm sitting next to the Rock River, it’s easy to see why Golf Digest ranked this course at No 42 in the US 100 greatest public golf courses.

The Championship tees measure a tough 7,256-yard and with a par 71 it will test every club and shot making skill of those who compete here this week. The TPC Deere Run is just two hours from Chicago and is located in the Quad Cities region of Western Illinois.

My tips to Win:

It’s hard not to tip Zach Johnson 12/1 – with SportingBet – who has a win, three runners-up and three Top 5 finishes in this event. Zach started this wraparound season finishing inside the Top 25 in six of his seven starts and with two Top 20 finishes from his last three starts I feel Johnson is the man to beat this week.

Another past champion is Ryan Moore 18/1 – Bet365 – who won this event two years ago and has two other Top 10 finishes here. Ryan has missed the cut twice in his last seven starts since The Masters, but he has only finished outside the Top 16 once in the remaining events and with a Top 15 finish last week at the Greenbrier I feel he will be in good shape this week.

It has been good to see Kyle Stanley 25/1 – with SportingBet – come back into form with six Top 20 finishes so far this year, two of which have been Top 5s including a runner-up at the Memorial Tournament. Kyle has several Top 20s here including a runner-up finish back in 2011 firing in the 60s in each round including two 65s.

Each-way tips:

Things seem to have settled down for Wesley Bryan 45/1 – with SkyBet – who had a run of missed cuts during the season and getting some consistency back to his game seems to have been the key. Wesley now seems to be building on that with a twelfth place finish a couple of weeks ago at the St Jude Classic and just finishing outside the Top 25 at the Greenbrier. I feel coming back here this week where he has had two Top 10s in the last two years including a third-place finish last year firing a final round 64 and that should see him teeing it up in buoyant mood this week.

Another player that has been on a run of missed cuts is Scott Stallings 80/1 – SportingBet – who has six from his last nine starts – hence these odds – but he is another player that seems to enjoy playing on the TPC Deere Run course and has finished sixteenth and fifth in his last two starts here firing back-to-back 64s in rounds two and three last year. As I said there is a reason behind these odds, but I feel he has started to enjoy playing this track.

Outside tip:

It has been a rollercoaster year for Sam Saunders 125/1 – Bet365 – with eleven missed cuts and four Top 25s from his twenty-one starts. I do believe he is not far from winning his first PGA Tour event and a Top 5 at the weekend at the Greenbrier and a Top 10 at the Wells Fargo Championship sandwich a run of missed cuts and I feel a bit of consistency will finally see him get over the line.

Longer odds:

Try Daniel Summerhays 250/1 – with BetFred

As always good luck
