The European tour heads to the Jack Nicklaus’ stadium course just outside Cologne, during construction there was plenty of remodelling of the site and lots of earth moving helped produce 18 individually undulating sculptured holes and fairways.
The driving areas have been designed so they are visible from the tee and with the amount of landscaping that has taken place, there is a lot of demand on a players short game should they miss the green. The greens were constructed according to USGA specifications and European standards.
The course has been design so the final two holes on both the front and back nines are the most demanding on the course helping to generate and an exciting finish.

My tips to Win:
I am sure Tommy Fleetwood 8/1 – with Corals – could fly himself to Germany on cloud nine at the moment and as long as he recovers from jetlag – and that putt for 62 in his final round of the US Open – I am sure the lad from Southport will be in buoyant mood this week. Tommy didn’t make the cut the last time this event was held at the Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof, but he is a very different player now.
Sergio Garcia 14/1 – Ladbrokes – certainly played in this event the last time it was played at Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof and made the Top 5. Sergio has missed five cuts from his last six starts on the PGA Tour and maybe his mind has been elsewhere with the birth of his daughter, but I think being back in Europe and with the Ryder Cup now on the horizon he will want to put in a good performance this week.
Another player that should turn up to this week in confident mood is Andy Sullivan 16/1 – Bet365 – who has had three Top 10 finishes from his last four starts and two of those have been in the Top 5. Andy has played on this track before finishing inside the Top 25 and I think he will be in the thick of it again this week.
Three Top 6 finishes in his last four starts should see Lucas Bjerregaard 35/1 – with Bet365 – bouncing through the gates and after a couple of weeks rest and practice I am sure he will be chumping at the bit. Like some of the other players on my picks list Lucas played in this event over this course two years ago but missed the cut, but again he has grown as a player since then and I expect him to continue his good run of form.
As many of you know I have tipped Jorge Campillo 50/1 – with SportingBet – a few times this year and the Spaniard has not disappointed with five Top 5 finishes including a runner-up in the Maybank Championship. Jorge is still to win on the European Tour and missed the cut the last time the event was held on the Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof course, but I do think he has grown as a player in those two years and will be challenging again this week.
I was surprised to see Lee Slattery 100/1 – with BetFred – this far down the betting odds after two Top 20 finishes in his last two starts, with one being his third place finish at the Italian Open and unlike some of my picks, Lee had a Top 15 when the BMW International Open was last held on this track two years ago.
Try Raphaël Jacquelin 150/1 – with PaddyPower
As always good luck
