This week sees the PGA Tour hit the Midwest in Western Illinois for the John Deere Classic, which for the last twelve years has been played at the TPC Deere Run Championship course.

The rolling terrain and wooded ravines were the perfect arena for ex PGA touring professional, DA Weibring to design this beautiful track and with the wooded areas of this former Arabian horse farm sitting next to the Rock River, it’s easy to see why Golf Digest ranked this course at No 42 in the US 100 greatest public golf courses.

The Championship tees measure a tough 7,256-yard and with a par 71 it will test every club and shot making skill of those who compete here this week. The TPC Deere Run is just two hours from Chicago and is located in the Quad Cities region of Western Illinois.

My tips to win:

Brian Harman 22/1 – with Coral – is a past champion of this event and although he missed the cut last year he did defend his title with a Top 25 finish the year before and had a Top 20 finish the first time he teed it up on the TPC Deere Run course. Brian comes into this week with five Top 15s from his last eight starts, which includes a win at the Wells Fargo and a runner-up at the US Open.

Not only is Zach Johnson 28/1 – with BetFred – a past champion here but he also has three runner-up finishes over the TPC Deere Run track so he obviously enjoys playing in this event and probably the reason why he has skipped getting in some links practice before next weeks Open Championship. It has not been a great year for the Iowan with only four Top 25 finishes from twelve starts but with a weakened field this week and his love of the course I expect him to be in the thick of it come Sunday

My each-way tips:

It is hard to summerise Daniel Summerhays 45/1 – with BetFred – last few weeks, his opening round 65 at the US Open was soon eclipsed by his final round collapse when shooting an 81. Then going into the final round of the Quicken Loans National sitting in the runner-up position and instead of kicking on he had another final round collapse firing a 74 that took him out of contention. Daniel does have all the attributes to do well and just needs a good final round to finally get his first PGA Tour win.

Ben Martin 50/1 – with Ladbrokes – started the year in horrendous form with six missed cuts from his first nine starts but has managed to steady the ship and started to play some consistent golf which culminated in a Top 5 finish at the Quicken Loans firing a final round 65 that moved him up the leaderboard. Ben fired a 62 here last year on the way to taking the runner up spot and should be looking forward to teeing it up here again this week.

Chad Campbell 67/1 – with 10Bet – has a solid record over the TPC Deere Run course with several Top 15 finishes. Chad is another player who has had an inconsistent season with fifteen missed cuts from twenty-three starts, but he comes into this week on the back of two Top 10 finishes from his last three starts – there was another missed cut sandwiched in there. With this field and his consistent form over this course I feel he could do well this week.

My outside tip:

As you can imagine I wasn’t expecting Johnson Wagner 70/1 – StanJames – to go and miss another cut last week after his Top 5 finish at the Quicken Loans National where he opened with a round of 66. But I am going to stick with him this week especially as he has made the Top 10 for the last three years in this event.
