The European Tour moves to the Albatross golf resort in the Czech Republic for this week's Czech Masters, it's another new venue situated in the Vysoky Ujezd on the outskirts of Prague and not far from the international airport Ruzyne.
The course was designed by Keith Preston and opened for play in 2010 and hosted last year’s Prague Golf Masters, a Ladies European Tour event. The course had won much praise at this event for its condition, and it was indeed in superb nick when we played. For a tour venue, the opening holes are surprisingly gentle.
For example the 3rd is a par 3 without any hazards and has only a sloping green for defence. Indeed, there are no really fierce tests here until you get to the water-strewn final three holes at the course rated the best in the Czech Republic by Golf Digest.

My tips to win:
I am going to stick with Thomas Pieters 9/1 with Bwin this week after his missed cut at the weekend, hopefully that has given him more time to practice and reflect. Thomas is a player that can really let a couple of bad shots affect his whole round and it must be frustrating for him after having such a fantastic 2016. Pieters has played well at the Masters and several WGC events this year but he seems to be having a problem knuckling down for the bread and butter tournaments. Thomas has won this event and had a runner-up finish in the last two years and I think a good start will see him challenging again this week.
Another past champion of the tournament is Jamie Donaldson 25/1 with PaddyPower who won the inaugural event. It has certainly been a rollercoaster ride since winning the match that sealed the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles back in 2014 for the Welshman, but there have been signs that he could be getting back to his best. Jamie has had two Top 20 finishes in his last two starts and he will be looking to building on those this week.
After three wins on this years Challenge Tour Aaron Rai 35/1 with Bet365 has wasted no time in making his mark on the main tour taking his second Top 10 finish at the Made In Denmark at the weekend. It is not the strongest of fields this week and nothing beats that winning mentality and Aaron certainly seems undaunted teeing it up on the full tour.
My each-way tips
Renato Paratore 40/1 with Coral won his first European Tour event this year, taking the Nordea Masters in June, he followed that up with a Top 10 at the BMW PGA Championship and made it inside the Top 50 at his first WGC event at the Bridgestone Invitational a few weeks ago. Renato opened up here with a 65 two years ago on his way to a Top 10 finish in the event and with his progression this year I feel he will be challenging this week.
Someone else I will be sticking with this week is David Lipsky 45/1 with BetFred who came into last weeks Made In Denmark on the back of four missed cuts from five starts, but he was teeing it up at a course he seems to enjoy playing and promptly made the Top 25 opening up with a round of 66. David has been inside the Top 20 in his last two starts here taking sixth place last year and a bit of extra confidence in his golf game from the weekend will surely help when he gets back here this week.
My outside Tips
There are a couple of good outside tips this week; Stephen Gallacher 80/1 with Ladbrokes has only teed it up in this events once in its inaugural year and finished inside the Top 10 and although he missed the cut at the weekend there has been improvement in his golf game the last few weeks. Paul Waring 100/1 with Coral is another player that has only teed it up in the inaugural event finishing inside the Top 20 and should be looking forward to this week.
If you want some bigger odds check out Justin Walters 200/1 with 32Red who finished strongly at the weekend and had a Top 15 finish here last year.
As always good luck
