The PGA Tour now moves back to the mainland and tees up at the Arnold Palmer Course at La Quinta resort PGA West California. Set at the foot of the majestic Santa Rosa Mountains it offers breathtaking views. It incorporates five lakes and a canal that comes into play on holes 14 through to 17. Look out for the five finishing holes which are carved along the rugged mountain range.

The Palmer course measures 6,930 yards played host to the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic where David Duval shot a course record 59 in his final round to win the to

My tips to win:

The first name that went down for this weeks event was that of Bill Haas 22/1 – with SportingBet – who has won this event twice, but what also makes his record impressive over the La Quinta Country Club courses is because of the twelve times he has teed it up he has made the Top 25 eight times and has a runner-up and two other Top 10s in that run. It must be in the genes as his father Jay won this event and also had a runner-up finish here

Another past champion here is Patrick Reed 18/1 – with Ladbrokes – who won here in 2014 when he shot 63 in each of his first three rounds and finished with a total of 260 – 27 under par. Patrick defended with a Top 25 but didn’t play that well here last year but he has two Top 10s in his last two outings and I expect him to be challenging again this week.

Zach Johnson 28/1 – with Coral – second round 61 last week which he then followed up with a 65 shows that he will come into this week in confident mood and more importantly a golf game that is in good shape. Up until two years ago Zach hadn’t been outside the Top 20 here in the four times that he had teed it up, but the last two years have seen him miss the cut twice, but I think he will put that record straight again this week.

My each-way tips

I have tipped Jason Dufner 35/1 – with Bet365 – in the first two events of the year so far on the PGA Tour and although he starts well he seems to slam it into reverse. He was in good shape at the SBS Tournament of Champions after two rounds then shot 72,75 to slide out of contention. He then fired an opening round of 65 at the Sony Open last week and followed that up with a 73 to miss the cut. Jason is defending champion this week and he does seem only a couple of holed putts away to being back to his best, so I am going to stick with him this week.

Webb Simpson 50/1 – with PaddyPower – has had a tough couple of years and when he missed the cut in his first event of the wraparound season I though that would be the case again for him this year. But the Lad from North Carolina has turned it around and shot all four rounds in the 60s last week to make the Top 15. In the seven times Webb has teed it up at PGA West he has been inside the Top 25 five times with two of those being Top 10 places and he should be in confident mood again this week.

Another player I am going to stick with this week is Luke List 55/1 – with Bet365 – Luke has only been outside the Top 15 once in this wraparound season and that was a twenty-sixth place finish at the Safeway Open. Since then List has had a runner-up and another Top 10 finish and coming back to an event where he had a Top 10 last year firing two 66s for his final rounds may just be the confidence boost he needs to finally get one over the line.

I know a lot of you like the outside tips, but there really isn’t any great picks this week hence the three each-way tips, but if you are still looking there is Soren Kjeldsen 100/1 – with PaddyPower – had a great season on the European Tour last year, but hasn’t played in this event before and hasn’t had a great start to his PGA Tour sojourn this year and past champion Jhonattan Vegas 125/1 – with BetFred – who won this event in 2011 but finished second to last two weeks ago, these are probably your best options.

As always good luck
