After last weeks tough test at Chambers Bay and firstly let us congratulate Jordan Spieth on his second major championships of the year and what a finish to a great tournament. The tour now moves on to Cromwell, Connecticut for the Travelers Championship which is once again being held at the TPC River Highlands.

River Highlands is a bit of a chameleon, the course opened in 1928 under the name of Middletown Golf Club, which later became known as the Edgewood Country Club. In 1982 Pete Dye completely redesigned the 6,841 yard track and finally in 1989 it went through another renovation this time undertaken by Bobby Weed with input from PGA Tour players Howard Twitty and Roger Maltbie.

The course weaves its way through mature maple, oak, eastern white pine and sycamore trees, which help to frame the gently rolling fairways. There are numerous lakes, ponds and over 100 bunkers. The tough finishing stretch of holes from the 15th - 17th play around a four-acre lake - just to make things a bit more interesting!

My tips to win:

I think Bubba Watson 14/1 – with SportingBet – will be looking forward to teeing it up at the TPC River Highlands. After starting the year in good form with four Top 15s from his first five starts which included a win and runner-up, it all went backwards from the Masters with only one Top 15 finish from his next eight starts. Bubba has won this event twice, has a runner-up and two Top 6s since 2008, he is also the defending champion this week and I expect him to be in the thick of it again come Sunday.

One tip from the PGA Championship I am going to stick with this week is Zach Johnson 28/1 – with PaddyPower – who was on a good run up until his thirty-third place finish at last weeks PGA. Going into last week Zach had good finishes at both The Open and US Open and a Top 10 sandwich in between those at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Johnson had a Top 10 finish here last year firing rounds of 64 and 65 along the way and I expect to see him in one of the final pairings come Sunday.

One player that should come into this week in confident mood is Paul Casey 33/1 – with BetVictor – with his Top 10 finish at the PGA Championship. It has not all been that way for the Englishman on the PGA Tour this year, Paul has five missed cuts this year three of those have come in his last five starts, but with a runner-up finish in this event last year – losing out in a play-off to Bubba – where he finished 64, 65 he will have plenty of positive memories to draw on.

My each-way tips:

It has been a few weeks since Daniel Berger 50/1 – with Bet365 – won his first PGA Tour event in only his second year on tour and it was only expected that in the proceeding events his game would take a dip. To be fair to the Floridian they were the US Open and PGA Championship – he had to withdraw from the WGC Bridgestone Invitational – and I feel he done well to make the cut in both and I expect him to be challenging again this week.

Another player who has had a strange season this year is Ryan Moore 66/1 – with Coral – who like Watson started the year well with four Top 11s from his first six starts with two of those being Top 5 finishes, but then proceeded to miss the cut in his next three starts. Ryan has made the cut in his last four starts the last one being at last weeks PGA Championship but has not challenged in anyway. Moore does have a good record here with two runners-up and three other Top 10s, two of which are Top 5s and with that in mind I think he will do well here again this week.

My outside tips:

It has not been the season Jamie Donaldson 150/1 – with PaddyPower – thought it would be, but if you listened to the Welshman’s interview during last weeks PGA Championship he feels his game is in good shape and that his puttering is gradually getting back to where he wants it and he is just waiting for it all to click in place again. New PGA Champion Jimmy Walker professed similar words at the beginning of last week. With that in mind and knowing how good Donaldson’s game is when he is on form and at these odds I feel he is worth a 50p each-way bet this week.

As always good luck
